Johnson Ready To Go - Logan Rankin
We had a chat with Blues' skipper Matt Johnson about his summer and preparations for a big campaign ahead of Billericay Town:
"Matt good to see you again, first of all how was your summer, and would you say it was hard to enjoy your summer, given all the clubs trying to snatch your signature?"
"I had a great summer, you need that time away to spend time with family and friends, gives you time to reflect and put things into perspective. I didn’t find it difficult letting interested managers know this season that I wanted to stay at Billericay, I think it’s clear to see we are building towards something special here, and like I said hopefully this year can be our year."
"Last campaign we missed out on promotion by the nearest of margins, with an already phenomenal team. With this year's squad bosting even more talent from the league above, would you say winning the league is the only option this year?"
"I think since I arrived in the building the main target has been winning the league , the new signings hopefully will give us more quality to give us a better chance of doing that."
"This season marks your 21st year in senior football you've had downs, and surely many more ups, what has been the best part of last season, and what is the main aim for this year?"
"Last year was desperately close to being one of the most memorable of my 21 years, but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be! There’s positivity going into this year knowing how well we done last season and with the core of the group still together, we obviously want to win it and be league champions."
You've scored a 4 goals from the backline last term, given your calibre of ability do you aim for even more this time round?
I always try to chip in with goals, anything to help the team win games, wether that be keeping clean sheets as a back 5 or scoring from the other end from a set piece.
Thank you Matt.
