Back To Blue - Logan Rankin

It was a weird and interesting summer for, now, Billericay's Jack Evans to say the least. From signing to not signing to now being signed...

This dilemma began on May 30th 2025 where former Chatham legend and captain, Jack Evans, announced his departure from Chatham Town F.C. Only days after Jack's 'offical' departure from The Chats, the club announced that centre-back, Reece Butler, would be the successor of Jack Evans.

A few weeks after Jack's departure, Billericay Town F.C approached him and 'got his signature'. Come Billericay's first pre-season training session, Jack Evans was absent, due to contractal terms. Hours after The Blues' first session back, the club released a serious and formal club statement which read,
"The Club wish to inform our supporters that, contrary to our previous announcement, Jack Evans will not be joining us at this time.

When we made our approach, we did so in good faith, based on publicly available information suggesting Jack was free to sign. However, it has since come to light that there is an unforeseen issue regarding his registration.

The Football Association has confirmed that Jack remains under contract with another club, which unfortunately prevents us from completing his registration. We understand this news will be disappointing and we share that sentiment."

Given this, Jack Evans was still under contract with Chatham Town and Billericay would not get him on a, originally wanted, free transfer. Chatham Town F.C posted a similar post on their socials, and made the decision to transfer list Jack which, in their eyes aswell as most people's, would be the most respectful manner.

The 2 clubs continued to work behind the scenes for a deal for Evans, meticulously negotiatiating, untill a deal was eventually met. Now Gary McCann would now have a player he has waited to work with for quite some time.

Jack Evans will now play at CM12 after being a Chat for 6 years.
