The Royal Real Bedford, a Club Doing The Unthinkable- Logan Rankin
A team in the Southern Football League, Division One are making the financial side of football a different place. Real Bedford are a team in the English Non-League pyramid who have absolutely flown through their respective league, with 98 points already mounted with 38 games already played. Real Bedford are a team with aspirations of the top flight of English football, and could well make their dream a reality, they are the first ever club to be run off of crypto currency. There are many risks in football in the financial sector, but who is the man who orchestrated this financial overtake?
Peter McCormack purchased the club back in 2021, and changed the name and badge, to fit his idea of a crypto run club, and in his words "I thought it'd be quite funny to be Real Bedford, because if you think of the Bernabeu and that's quite funny. Quite like the idea, one day in the FA Cup people draw Real Bedford, it's like a five-a-side team name". The club's original name was Bedford FC before McCormack's over hall. Believe it or not there are absolutely no risks with using bitcoin, they take money as normal, from turnstiles, burgers, shirts, merch and some people pay in crypto that is stashed and kept, until needed.
The club received a very hefty investment of 4.5 million, the largest investment ever recorded in non-league football, from The Winklevoss Twins, the founders of Gemini. They were confident that Rob Sinclair could bring Bedford up the ranks of the English tables and possibly snatch a place in the Premier League. Peter McCormack sat down with the twin brothers, and were weary at the time but gave Peter what he desired after not long of negotiating.
Real Bedford's rivals, Bedford Town, are quite the definition of neighbouring rivals, with either of their stadiums only being a few metres apart. Bedford Town have been a struggle- trying to deliver detrimental blows to Real's plans of playing on home turf. Every single time Town have sent complains, they've been thankfully denied. Although Bedford Town have been ruthless, both Bedford based teams have tried to affiliate together.
